Wi-Fi Coverage Planner

Tell us about the space, not the boxes. We work out how many UniFi access points it really takes, where each one goes, and how to wire them back so the Wi-Fi is fast in every room. Then we confirm it with a survey on site.

1 · The space

Example home

All the space you want covered, indoors. A guess to the nearest few hundred square feet is fine.

1,800 sq ft

Each floor is its own coverage problem, so this matters as much as the area. Count a finished basement you use.

Radio passes easily through drywall and struggles with brick, plaster-and-lath, stone, concrete and foil-backed insulation. Dense walls mean more access points, closer together.

2 · How it gets used

Not just people. Phones, laptops, TVs, cameras, and a house full of smart-home gadgets all want airtime. Heavy load means more access points so no single one is swamped.

Wi-Fi outdoors needs its own outdoor-rated access points, not an indoor one shining through a window.

How we plan coverage

Coverage is about placement before count. One access point in the middle of a ceiling beats two in the wrong corners, so we plan at least one per level, high and central, away from metal, panels and the back of a TV.

Every access point gets a network cable back to a switch. Two wired access points almost always beat four wireless mesh nodes, because a wireless hop halves speed and fights your devices for airtime. Where a cable cannot reach, we fix that first.

What we confirm on site

  • A real survey with a meter, room by room, floor by floor.
  • Exact mounting spots and how the walls actually behave.
  • Cable routes to each access point, and the switch to feed them.
  • Channel and power tuning so devices roam without dropping.
  • Whether one more access point removes a stubborn dead zone.
