Cybersecurity for small business

Right-sized security for small business: the firewall, backups, email protection and monitoring that actually stop the common attacks, without enterprise cost or jargon.

Most small-business security incidents are not sophisticated. They are a phishing email, a weak or exposed remote-access setup, a flat network where one infected laptop can reach everything, or the simple absence of a working backup. The good news is that the fundamentals that stop the majority of attacks are affordable, and we build them into the same network we install.

A sensible baseline looks like this: a properly configured firewall and network segmentation, so guests, cameras, payment devices and staff computers are separated and a compromise in one place cannot spread; secure remote access over a VPN instead of ports opened to the internet; email protection with SPF, DKIM and DMARC so your domain cannot be spoofed and your mail actually gets delivered; reliable backups of your files and Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace data, tested so you know they restore; and monitoring with prompt security updates so problems are caught early.

We are honest about scope. We are your network and security partner for the fundamentals, not a penetration-testing or compliance-audit firm. We get the everyday protections right, explain them in plain language, and when a business genuinely needs a formal audit or a specialist, we say so and help coordinate it.

We work with small businesses across Southwestern Ontario, including Brantford, Ancaster, Hamilton, Woodstock and Simcoe.

Common questions

What does small-business cybersecurity actually involve?

For most businesses it is a handful of fundamentals done properly: a segmented network behind a real firewall, secure remote access, email that cannot be spoofed, tested backups, and updates that actually get applied. Those steps stop the large majority of everyday attacks.

We are small. Are we really a target?

Yes, because most attacks are automated and untargeted. Bots scan for weak remote access, unpatched devices and exposed services regardless of company size. Small businesses are hit precisely because they often assume they are too small to bother with.

Do you serve businesses in Brantford, Ancaster or Hamilton?

Yes. We work with small businesses across Southwestern Ontario, including the Brantford, Ancaster and Hamilton area and the surrounding counties.

Our email keeps getting spoofed or landing in spam. Can you fix that?

Usually, yes. Correct SPF, DKIM and DMARC records stop others from sending as your domain and help your own mail reach the inbox. It is one of the highest-value, lowest-cost things a small business can fix, and we do it often.

Do you do penetration testing or compliance audits?

We focus on the practical protections that prevent everyday incidents, and we are upfront that formal penetration testing and compliance audits are specialist work. When you need them, we will say so and help you bring in the right people.

How does this connect to the network you install?

Directly. Because we design and run your UniFi network, the firewall, segmentation, VPN and monitoring are part of the same system rather than bolted on afterward, which is what makes right-sized security affordable.
